Welcome to at Home with Mickey

A subscriber-based archive of life in a landscape…nestled into the hills of the Razorback Range, on Dharawal country, just to the southwest of Sydney, NSW, Australia. It’s at my home, Glenmore House - where a garden (both ornamental and productive) has been created and nurtured over 36 years, to link a collection of restored vernacular farm buildings, connecting the whole to the landscape…and us…to it.

Whilst this endeavour on the substack platform is brand new, just like the original Blog on the old website…that preceded the book ‘The House and Garden at Glenmore’…which preceded the podcast ‘in The Kitchen Garden with Mickey’ this archive will grow in time…in tune with the seasonal sequence that guides daily life at Glenmore House, in tandem with ongoing workshops, events.

With a long career in interior design, about 16 years ago my path took a little turn, when I decided that teaching people how to grow vegetables…sharing that vital information was…perhaps the most significant contribution I could make in the world. Those early Kitchen Garden Days spilled over into a host of collaborations…with cooks, artists, authors, travellers…a plethora of guests who are experts in their respective fields.

In this space, I’ll reveal a personal account of seasonal life…with a heavy emphasis on the sequence of gardening throughout the seasons, alongside its produce…following garden to plate, flowers to vase, botanicals to still and interiors life…there is bound to be waffle…alongside practical, no-nonsense/how-to information, insightful, at times esoteric, candid or just plain funny.

How I hope you will join me…as these writings (which will come laden with imagery) come to fruition, and very much hope you will Subscribe…to get full access to each newsletter and publication archives.

Learn, dream, eat, be inspired, idyllic days, has long been the descriptor for goings-on at Glenmore House. These few words also encapsulate my intention for posts on this platform, connecting the magic of the garden to home.
