Oh Mickey, you’ve given me an earworm!! The song you referred to is from “My Fair Lady”, and begins “all I want is a room somewhere, far away from the cold night air…”
Nup...there's another one! The refrain goes "and everything in the garden is luv-erly"!!!! But now I'm going to have Eliza Doolittle in my head all day!!!! X
We went out to dinner last night (we did what?????) and I had to laugh when a rather strange modern version of the song from My Fair Lady emanated from some hidden speakers!!! I've since been wondering if I had my wires crossed with an 'English Country Garden' but its tune is too demure...I just know the one I'm thinking of is more bawdy!
I vaguely recall a risqué (well, for the sixties anyway) version of the ‘English Country Garden’ that contained a line about “little doggies calling cards” but it was a very long time ago…

Tit for tat then, she’s still in my head hours later 😉

Ah...well, whatever it was you're in the right era now! It was a woman who sang it...
Might it have been Joyce Grenfell?
